Nancy Butler Obituary

ALEXANDRIA ---- Nancy R. Butler, 82, passed away very peacefully, Saturday, April 13, 2024 after a long period of declining health. 

She was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, one of two children of Clayton and Ruth (Perkins) Gray.

She was raised in Wenham, MA and graduated in 1960 from Beverly High School. She married Francis Butler and shortly after they moved to Stratham, NH. In 1972, they purchased their home in Alexandria and established deep roots in the community.

Nancy worked as a clerk or manager in numerous stores over the years. The Globe Store, International Packing Corp., Meredith Trading Post, True’s Clothing Store, The Wagon Wheel Restaurant, Polar Caves and Newfound Sales Trading Post. At one time, she and business partner Linda Dyer, operated a yarn and consignment shop in Bristol. Nancy took classes through UNH for Library Science, and spent over 40 years as the Librarian of Haynes Memorial Library in Alexandria. As the wife of the AVFD Fire Chief, she spent numerous hours volunteering with the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  

Family members include her husband of over 63 years, Francis I. Butler, son Michael (Theressa) Butler of Alexandria; daughters Christine (Bill) Cox of Bristol and Cynthia Butler (Tim Reese) of Boscawen; five grandchildren: Lisa, Kirstin, Amanda, Danny, Stephanie; and six great-grandchildren: William, Lincoln, Isabella, Clayton, Dixie, and Nova. She was predeceased by daughter Cheryl Ann Butler, Beverly, MA.

There are no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00am at the Alexandria United Methodist Church, 12 Washburn Rd., Alexandria, NH.
