June Flanders Obituary

ALEXANDRIA ---- On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, June (Gray) Flanders passed away peacefully at Golden View Health Care Center, in Meredith, at the age of 97.

June was born on June 9, 1927, in Bristol, New Hampshire, the daughter of the late Leon and Luvellia (Plummer) Gray. As a young girl, June was taken in by her Aunt Ruey and Uncle Arthur Corneau of Bristol, where she was raised after the passing of her mother.

June attended elementary and high school in Bristol, graduating as salutatorian of her class. As a young woman, she worked at the Bristol Theater and at Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator.

In 1946, at the age of 19, June married Donald F. Flanders, Sr., and moved to South Alexandria, New Hampshire, where they raised seven children. June was an active member of the Alexandria United Methodist Church, where she taught and assisted in the Sunday School program and was part of the Women’s Activities and Support Group. Other than time with her family and church community, June also enjoyed reading, doing word puzzles, working on her flower garden and reaching out to people in need. She especially enjoyed all the countless hours around the kitchen table with her daughter Elizabeth, creating hand crafts, often to sell at community craft fairs or to share with loved ones.

June is survived by her daughters Marion Morgan and husband John, Susan Armstrong and husband Robert; sons, Donald “Bud” Flanders, Jr. and wife Martha, Michael “Jack” Flanders, Frederick “Fred” Flanders and wife Susan, and Timothy “Tim” Flanders and wife Berta “Patty”; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Donald F. Flanders, Sr., daughter Elizabeth “Liz” Flanders, daughter-in-law Margaret “Midge” Flanders (wife of Jack Flanders), and her siblings; sisters Ruby Dorval, Lucy Drake and Marjorie Amendola and brothers Morris and Robert Gray.

As per June’s request, a small private graveside service will be held in the spring of 2025 for family and friends and her ashes will be scattered in places of importance to her.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses, aides and activities staff of Golden View Health Care Center for the kindness, care and attention given her during her time there.
