ALEXANDRIA ---- Howard Hamel, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of his grandchildren.
Born on October 9, 1935, in Vermont, Howard was raised on a family farm alongside his five siblings. Together, they shared many fond memories,
especially during maple sugaring season — a cherished Vermont tradition that reflected the family’s strong work ethic and close bond.
From a young age, Howard developed a deep passion for working with horses. He found great fulfillment in logging the land using his trusted team of
workhorses, a practice that reflected his patience, strength, and respect for nature. As a young man, Howard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, spending much of his service stationed in Japan.
After returning home he bought a farm of his own and served on the local fire department and in positions on the town board. He went on to meet the love
of his life, Sandra Hamel (Buckland). The two married and settled in Alexandria, New Hampshire, where they built a beautiful life together. Howard spent his later years working at and retired from Newfound Regional High School where he was admired for his dedication, reliability, and gentle nature.
Outside of his work, he poured his heart into his land — building a barn, several outbuildings, and a gift shop for his wife Sandy. Together, they raised sheep and operated a small farm business for more than a decade.
After retiring, Howard and Sandy enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada, creating many cherished memories together. In his later
years, Howard took great joy in the simple pleasures of life — sharing a morning cup of coffee with Sandy, tending to his animals, and watching the fields he had cared for over 25 years.
Howard will be remembered for his strength, patience, and quiet kindness. He was a man who worked hard, loved deeply, and lived a life rooted in purpose
and simplicity.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 36 years, Sandra Hamel (Buckland). He is survived by numerous children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and
several brothers and sisters, all of whom will carry on his legacy with love and pride.
Howard’s family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with Sandy, and that the life they built together will continue to inspire those who loved them most.
