Alan Newton Obituary

HEBRON – Alan Douglas Newton, 82, of Cilley Brook Lane, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at home surrounded by family.

He was born September 29, 1941 in Athol, MA, the son of the late Ward Newton and Elsie Marion (Sevelius) Newton.

Alan served in the U.S. Air Force and then graduated from Holdsworth Natural Resource Center in 1966. Through his love of arboriculture, he served as a park management after his service.

He worked as a pipe fitter for the VT Yankee Nuclear Power Plant. A devoted family man, he volunteered with the Kiwanis Club and Sunday School and was a wonderful witness to the Lord.

With the love of all things outdoors, Alan hiked Mount Washington four times and part of the Appalachian Trail, enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, and loved birds and fishing. He couldn’t spend enough time on his pontoon boat on Squam Lake in Holderness, NH. He often dropped a dollar bill on a trail to see who would pick it up.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Alice (Greene) Newton; two daughters, Michele Marsten and her husband, Jonathan and Jacquene Marten and her husband, Josh; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Veltsos and her husband, Jeff; a stepson, Robert Billings and his wife, Kim; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Julie Newton.
